No Spend Month | January 2013

by Jennifer on January 2, 2013

We are again doing a No Spend Month for the month of January.  December was filled with way too much consumerism and it will be nice to break free of that and see how little we can spend.  I haven’t decided how much I will allow myself for groceries and such.  I am hoping not to spend anything on clothing.  We have all the pet supplies we need, I don’t anticipate any gifts, but I have a little money in the gift envelope left in case someone gets invited to a birthday party.  We will see how it goes.  Here is what I have going for me:

  • $20 gift certificate to a local farmer’s market
  • $15 in Target gift cards
  • $10 gas gift card
  • A full pantry & freezer
  • 2 CSA deliveries
  • Only local (ish) gymnastics meets.  One is 2 hours away, but we will pack food and not stay overnight.  The other is in town.

Here is what I have going against me:

  • I don’t like to see my pantry and freezer get too empty, it makes me nervous.
  • 4 growing, hungry kids
  • 1 weekend that Kevin & I will both be working the gymnastics meet = easy foods accessible for the kids to fix and eat and more money spent on gas.

Are you doing an “eat from the pantry” or “no spend month” challenge this January?  If so, I would love to follow along with how you do.

I’m doing both a pantry/freezer challenge & a spend-as-little-as-possible-on-everything-else challenge this month. My chest freezer & fridge freezer are PACKED; I can’t fit another thing in either. I hope to only purchase milk/dairy products & produce. Good luck on your challenges, Jennifer!
