Stocking up on Thanksgiving sales

This is the time of year when many food items go on sale, for what seems like the only time of year for some items. I don't typically see stuffing, cranberry sauce and turkey's on sale at other times of the year. At least not the rock bottom prices of Thanksgiving time. Baking products are also on sale right now.

If there is any wiggle room in your budget, I recommend trying to stock up on these things - for the whole year. Every year I buy enough cranberry sauce to last the year. It really isn't that much, because we only have it about once a month. But by stocking up when they are cheapest, I save about half the cost of cranberry sauce any other time of year. As for turkeys, I will usually get 2 - one for Thanksgiving and one for later in the winter. Making a large turkey dinner is time consuming and a lot of work, so I only do it twice a year. And boy do we enjoy it those 2 times.

I have been slowly stocking up on baking supplies and probably won't be able to get all that I want this fall. But normally I will buy flour at its lowest price of the year to last as long as possible. 100 pounds is not uncommon for me to buy this time of year. It will usually last until late spring or early summer. So rather than just buying what you need, or stockpiling a little, consider stockpiling a lot. If you can do it, it will save you a lot of money all year long.

I finally have a small area set up in my laundry room to stock up on supplies so am also taking advantage of the sales. Great tip on buying the extra fixings, we're getting a free turkey from hubbys work and I'm going to buy one so we'll have two turkeys this year at some point - lots of leftovers

Great tips. I'm already stocking up on my baking supplies. I hadn't thought about cranberry sauce though. We eat it about twice a month, so a stock-up would be good.

I found a great $2 coupon on a whole Butterball turkey yesterday, so that will be good combined with a sale. I might give it to my mother since I haven't officially "inherited" turkey duty from her yet for the holidays!

I have a group of friends on Facebook and what you are suggesting fits into our overall goal. We don't have lots of money to go stockpile as much as we'd like but the goal is to spend $10 a week stockpiling an item - spending less than $1 on the item. So you would end up with (10) of the same item. On the weeks you have more cash to work with, you can do more. The stockpiles are building for all of us and we haven't been doing this very long at all.

What is a good price on cranberry sauce? I saw that Walgreens has it on ad next week for .79. Is that a good deal?
