- Shop the sales. Just like regular foods, organic foods go on sale. Stick with those foods each week and stock up when they are on sale if you can.
- Grow your own if you can. Every year our garden gets bigger and I make sure that it stays organic.
- Buy in bulk. We have purchased 2 batches of organic meats this way and by purchasing it in bulk, we have gotten it for about the same price as non-organic meat from the grocery store. We found local farms through Eat Wild.
- Search for pick your own places near you that use organic methods. We have been able to get massive amounts of organic fruit that I have then preserved for us to eat all year.
- Shop Amazon. I know that sounds weird, but they have a large selection of organic products and a few times a year have a pretty good sale on them. You are typically buying a larger quantity, but that brings the price down even more.
- Look into joining a coop. I haven't found one near us yet, but I hear of other people that have great success with this.

Eating Organic on a Budget
The more I learn about the chemicals in our foods and the way our foods are raised and processed, the more I want to eat organic foods. I want our family to be as healthy as possible and when I look at the research that shows all sorts of strange illnesses and diseases that have come about (or become much more prevalent) since we started mass producing and processing foods, I shudder to think about what I am feeding my kids. Here are some of the ways we try to eat organic on a budget. Keep in mind that we do not eat only organic, but I am constantly striving to increase the amount we do, while not increasing my grocery budget.

I believe at one time that you wrote that you are around Columbus. If you find a co-op please let me know. I would be willing to drive to join. There is a great little amish ran whole foods/ organic bulk food store off of I-70 near Englewood(I know it would be a drive but if you are ever going by it, it may be a huge asset.) that has AWESOME prices! I get all of my whole wheat (and other grains) along with organic foods. I get my free range eggs and everythign there also. Good luck! We are enduring the same struggle at our home also!
These are some great tips. We also are eating mostly organic/natural. A friend and I are going to start a coop...I'll let you know when we get it up and running!!
Another tip is to avoid organic junk food.
Also, do you have any seventh day adventist stores near you? We have one and they sell bulk organic grains, sugar, and more. Also, if you're looking for grassfed meat check out eatwild.com it has a list of farms that sell it in Ohio. If you're looking for raw milk check out realmilk.com
There is a website slickdeals.net that posts deals all over the internet and actual stores on it. I have an alert set up for "organic" and get emails anytime something organic is posted. You do have to sign up for the site, but they are great and dont spam or anything. HIGHLY recommended so you dont miss out on the amazon sales and other website sales! Hope it helps out.
I live in South Florida and joined an organic produce buying club this summer and absolutely love it. I receive a huge box of fruits and vegetables (and occasionally fresh herbs) every other week. I end up freezing a fair amount of it and it's made me more creative with my cooking. Plus, my kids are excited to go with me to pick it up and start eating the fruit as we unpack the box at home. My 3 year old daughter ate a huge serving of purple cauliflower last week, how cool is that?!
